A Magnificent Pair of Irish George II Giltwood Pier Mirrors
The stylised central pagoda cresting, over extensively and superbly executed carved giltwood frame, incorporating c-scroll, stalactite, stalagmite, branch, and leaf carved details, with flanking perched squirrels. The carved apron centred by a female mask, flanked by architecturally formed rock and brickwork, enclosing a mercury mirror plate. The surface painstakingly dry stripped to reveal the remarkable original gilding beneath, with only small gilt matched restorations. Irish, c.1750.
NB. Carved restorations to pagoda crestings, with other minor carved replacements.
