An Irish 18th Century Giltwood Mirror by John Booker of Essex Bridge, Dublin
The central pagoda cresting, over extensively executed carved giltwood frame, incorporating c-scroll, stalactite, stalagmite, branch, and leaf carved details . The carved apron centred by a female mask, flanked by architecturally formed rock and brickwork, enclosing the original 18th century lightly foxed mercury mirror plate. It is extremely rare for mirrors of this period, run through this established Dublin workshop, to retain their original labels; remarkably still pasted to the backboards of this mirror, the original label reads ‘No. 4512, John Booker, at Essex Bridge Dublin’.
Irish, c.1750.
Height: 64 in; 163 cm
